Vietnam’s largest island and one of the country’s most popular coastal destinations, Phu Quoc has dozens of excellent beaches.

This guide covers all 21 beaches on Phu Quoc Island, including tips for accommodation, food and drink, and things to see and do on each one of them.

Phu Quoc has all kinds of beaches: from rustic, empty and undeveloped to sophisticated, modern and resort-studded; from budget backpacker enclaves to secluded, luxurious private bays.

Don’t listen to the naysayers: Phu Quoc is not ruined. There is something for everyone on this island.

It’s all about managing your expectations and finding the right beach and the right accommodation to suit your particular needs: that’s what this guide is for..

Here is the list of the best beaches in Phu Quoc

  1. Sao Beach (Bai Sao)
  2. Ong Lang beach (Bai Ong Lang)
  3. Starfish beach
  4. Long Beach (Bai Truong)
  5. Pineapple beach (Hon Thom)
  6. Fingernail island (Mong Tay island)
  7. May Rut island

1. Sao Beach (Bai Sao)

Sao beach is considered the most beautiful beach on Phu Quoc island. The sand on this beach is pure white and smooth like cream.

In addition to the clear blue sea that one can see the bottom of, sand in Sao Beach Phu Quoc is famous for its smooth whiteness, creating a soft feeling under your feet.

Not only that, being embraced by mountain ranges makes the scenery here even more impressive.

With a coastline of 7km with fine white sand and clear blue water, Bai Sao is a beautiful place to relax.

2. Ong Lang beach (Bai Ong Lang)

Along with the blue sea, white sand, and golden sunshine, Ong Lang beach has unique rocky shores and is a great sunset viewpoint.

This beach is also suitable for outdoor activities such as playing group games or barbecuing.

During the day, you can do a kayaking tour to explore the area, then enjoy a romantic meal under the sparkling lights of the shore.

There are also many luxury resorts on Ong Lang beach to stay and relax.

We visited Ong Lang beach many times during our trip to Phu Quoc island.

In the late afternoon, sitting on rocks of different shapes, facing the sea, we could enjoy the beautiful sunset and the magnificence of nature.

Ong Lang is one of our favorite beaches in Phu Quoc. We love watching the sunset on this beach.

3. Starfish beach

Starfish beach, or Ganh Dau beach, is one of the most impressive beaches I’ve ever been to.

Here, you can find thousands of starfishes lying around, creating a unique sight not available anywhere else.

The best time to visit Starfish beach is from January to May. You should avoid visiting it during summer and the stormy season.

4. Long Beach (Bai Truong)

Long Beach is located southwest of Phu Quoc Island, with a coastline stretching more than 20 km from Dinh Cau Port to North An Thoi.

The beach is parallel to Tran Hung Dao’s main road, where you can find 70% of Phu Quoc resorts, restaurants, souvenir shops, and other tourist services.

This is why Long Beach is more busy than other beaches in Phu Quoc, as you can both relax on the beach and do other activities

We love walking along Long beach at night, listening to the waves, and watching the brilliant lights emanating from the resorts.

5. Pineapple beach (Hon Thom)

Located quite far from the center, about 35km from Duong Dong town to the Northeast, Pineapple beach (Hon Thom) is charming with its pristine beauty.

Coming here, you can immerse yourself in the fresh air and the vastness of the sea.

To get to Hon Thom, you can take a cable car crossing the sea from An Thoi port. Learn more about it in my Pineapple island travel guide.

The blue color of the sea and the sky seem to merge into one, making it even more prominent on the golden sandy shore.

6. Fingernail island (Mong Tay island)

Located in the South of Phu Quoc Island, Fingernail island is also a lovely place to visit.

The island gets its name because, in the past, there were many types of Mong Tay trees ( Pemphis Acidula) on the island. Over time, the number of these trees decreased, giving way to thousands of coconut trees.

This island is an excellent place for coral diving. It has the richest marine ecosystem in Vietnam, with 17 different types of anemones and corals.

We took an island hopping tour that includes trips to Fingernail island, Gam Ghi island, and May Rut island and it was fantastic.

7. May Rut island

May Rut island is about a 10-minute canoe from Fingernail Island, more than 10km southwest of An Thoi.

This pristine island has a gentle beach and rows of palm trees. Water in May Rut is not deep, can swim hundreds of kilometers from the coast, convenient for watching corals, or simply relaxing in freshwater.

The marine ecosystem is very diverse, including fish, shrimp, crabs, shellfish, snails, etc.
