Every visitor in Laos will quickly agree that this is a must to see in Laos

Being one of the capitals of ancient Laos, over time to time, Luang Prabang (or Muong Luang) - is an incredibly graceful boutique town, with authentic Laos spirit, traditional old houses, French-styled villas adjacent to lavish ancient temples and shrines.

Luang Prabang is also a river-cross area, where you can witness many Boat races in high water time, visit gorgeous pagodas in the countryside, and wake up at five to see hundreds of Theravada Buddhist monks in their daily alms giving ritual.

Many young tourists also love to spend several days for biking around shadowed streets of Luang Prabang, where bikes do not need locks, and for visiting busy but peaceful markets full of goods, foods and tropical aroma, then going out of town to visit Asia Center of Elephants Feeding or deeping themselves in natural crystal pools.

From Luang Prabang, you can also go up-north to the mountainous area to meet the minority ethnic people near Luang Nam Tha, enjoy elephant ridings, trek around tranquil villages with green gardens or go further to reach the Golden Triangle, now is an opium-free zone but still under the famous name at the bordergate of Laos, Thailand and Myanmar

Laotian cuisine is largely reflective of the ethnic diversity of Laos and its surrounding neighbors, comprising a rich blend of French colonial, Thai, Vietnamese, and Burmese influence.

However, it has not gained such a resounding culinary reputation as its neighbors Thailand and Vietnam, largely due to its landlocked geographical location, which makes it less convenient to spread its values to the outer world.

Nevertheless, the cuisine world in the city of Luang Prabang never ceases to be appealing and exciting.

Khao Ka Moo (Pork leg rice)

Khao Ka Moo belongs to the top must-try dishes in Luang Prabang.

The pork leg is simmered for hours so that the fat is peeled away and the meat becomes so tender that it literally melts in your mouth.

The pork is then generously piled on top of your rice, seasoned with a kind of indulgent sauce and hot and sour spicy chili.

Boiled egg and some veggies are also served on the rim of the plate.

Khao Piak Sen (Sticky rice noodles)

Don’t judge this rice noodles as being identical to dozens of other rice noodles available in Asian countries.

Dishes in Laos are slightly sticky, slippery and very refreshing, which can pleasantly surprise first-time tasters.

The carefully boiled broth together with the excellent toppings is essential in making the noodle bowl look, smell and taste mouth-watering.

Topping can be served to your personal wish, with chicken, vegetables or both. Khao Piak Sen is a pervasive dish across the streets of Luang Prabang.

The sticky rice goes along well with Khai Pen (fried Mekong seaweed) as well as Jeow Bong (sweet and spicy chili paste).

Vegetarian tourists can therefore be confident to try street foods in Luang Prabang without suffering a bad conscience.

2. Travel Guide

If there was a city that embodies everything Laos stands for, this would undoubtedly be Luang Prabang.

The city blends the history of Laos in an almost ideal way: Traditional temples stand in close proximity to French colonial buildings and merge into an architectural unity.

What at the first glance may seem contrary is actually in perfect harmony with each other in this old capital city of Laos.
