Discover the highlights of Laos’ laid-back capital today. Visit Wat Sisaket, famed for its cloister of thousands of tiny Buddha images, and the former royal temple Wat Prakeo. Continue to That Luang Stupa—Laos’ national symbol—and pause for photos at the Arc de Triomphe-style Patuxay Monument. Gain insight into Laos’ war-torn past at the COPE Centre, which showcases the ongoing impact of unexploded ordnance. In the afternoon, travel to Buddha Park, an eclectic riverside sculpture garden filled with over 200 Hindu and Buddhist statues created by a mystical monk-philosopher. Return to the city in time to enjoy a sunset over the Mekong River.

Day 3: Vientiane – Xieng Khuang

Enjoy a relaxed morning before transferring to the airport for your flight to Xieng Khuang, home of the mysterious Plain of Jars. Upon arrival in Phonsavan, you’ll be transferred to your hotel. Spend the rest of the day at leisure and acclimate to the peaceful highland atmosphere of this fascinating province.

Day 4: Plain of Jars Exploration & Muang Khoun

Begin with a visit to the MAG (Mines Advisory Group) office to learn about efforts to clear unexploded ordnance in the region. Then set off to explore the enigmatic Plain of Jars, starting with Site 2 and a short trek to the scenic hilltop Site 3. Later, journey to Muang Khoun—the ancient provincial capital—to see its Lanna-style pagodas and the ruins of Wat Phiawat with its large seated Buddha. On your return to Phonsavan, visit Site 1, the largest and most iconic of the jar sites. The true purpose of these megalithic stone jars remains a mystery, adding a compelling layer to your journey.

Day 5: Xieng Khuang – Luang Prabang Scenic Drive

Begin your day at Phonsavan’s lively Central Market before embarking on a scenic drive to Luang Prabang. En route, visit Ban Som Boom, a Hmong village, and enjoy a relaxing lunch stop in Phou Khoun. Continue with a visit to Ban Nam Ming, a Khmu village offering scenic views and insight into local life. Arrive in Luang Prabang by early evening and settle into this charming UNESCO-listed town nestled between the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers.

Day 6: Kuang Si Waterfall & Morning Alms Ritual

Rise early to witness or take part in Luang Prabang’s sacred alms-giving ritual, a spiritual tradition unique to Laos. After breakfast, explore Phousi Market, where locals shop for daily produce and exotic ingredients. Continue to Kuang Si Waterfall—a beautiful multi-tiered cascade set in lush jungle. Swim in the turquoise pools, visit the Bear Rescue Centre, and enjoy a picnic lunch beneath the falls. Return to town in the afternoon for free time and quiet reflection.

This morning, join a meaningful half-day program at MandaLao Elephant Sanctuary. After a river crossing and feeding session, enjoy an immersive jungle walk alongside these gentle giants, bathing them and trekking through scenic streams.
