Itinerary

Day 1: Hanoi – Tuyen Quang – Ha Giang – Thon Tha Village

Your adventure begins with a morning departure from Hanoi as you travel toward Ha Giang through the picturesque province of Tuyen Quang. Along the way, admire rolling tea plantations, forested mountains, and peaceful villages inhabited by Vietnam’s ethnic minority communities.

After enjoying lunch at a local restaurant, continue your scenic drive to Thon Tha Village, a charming Tay ethnic settlement nestled just outside Ha Giang City. Surrounded by rice paddies and traditional stilt houses, the village offers an excellent opportunity to experience local life.

Spend the afternoon walking through the village, meeting friendly residents, and learning about the customs and traditions of the Tay people. Enjoy a home-cooked dinner before settling into a cozy homestay for your first night in northern Vietnam.

Day 2: Ha Giang – Quan Ba – Yen Minh – Lung Cu – Dong Van

After breakfast, continue deeper into the spectacular Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark, one of Vietnam’s most remarkable mountain regions. The winding roads lead through dramatic limestone landscapes, deep valleys, and panoramic mountain passes.

Pause at Quan Ba Heaven Gate to admire sweeping views of the surrounding valleys and the famous Twin Mountains before continuing to Yen Minh for lunch.

In the afternoon, visit the historic H’Mong King’s Palace in Sa Phin, once home to the influential Vuong family. Later, travel to the iconic Lung Cu Flag Tower, located near the Chinese border, where breathtaking views await from Vietnam’s northernmost point.

Arrive in Dong Van in the evening and take time to stroll through the atmospheric Old Quarter, known for its centuries-old stone houses and unique highland architecture. Overnight at a local hotel.

Day 3: Dong Van – Ma Pi Leng Pass – Meo Vac – Bao Lac – Cao Bang

Begin the day with a visit to Dong Van’s local market, where ethnic minority communities gather to trade fresh produce, livestock, and handmade goods. Depending on the day, you may also explore the historic Pu Lo Fortress.

The journey continues across the legendary Ma Pi Leng Pass, often considered Vietnam’s most spectacular mountain road. Following the famous Happiness Road, you’ll enjoy unforgettable views of towering limestone peaks, deep canyons, and the emerald Nho Que River below.

After descending into Meo Vac Valley, travel through the remote mountain landscapes toward Bao Lac for lunch before continuing to Cao Bang Province. Arrive in Cao Bang City in the evening and relax at your hotel after another memorable day on the road.

Day 4: Cao Bang – Ban Gioc Waterfall – Nguom Ngao Cave – Cao Bang

Today’s excursion showcases some of northern Vietnam’s most impressive natural attractions. Travel through beautiful countryside to the magnificent Ban Gioc Waterfall, one of the world’s largest waterfalls located on an international border. Its multiple cascades, lush surroundings, and crystal-clear waters create one of Vietnam’s most iconic landscapes.

En route, stop at Phuc Sen Village, renowned for its centuries-old blacksmith tradition, and visit the lively Trung Khanh Market, where Tay, Nung, H’Mong, and Dao ethnic groups gather to trade local products.

After lunch near the waterfall, continue to Nguom Ngao Cave, an extraordinary limestone cavern filled with impressive stalactites and stalagmites formed over millions of years. Return to Cao Bang for dinner and another overnight stay.

Day 5: Cao Bang – Ma Phuc Pass – Ba Be National Park

After breakfast, leave Cao Bang behind and travel toward the peaceful landscapes of Ba Be National Park. Along the way, cross the scenic Ma Phuc Pass, one of the most beautiful mountain passes in northeastern Vietnam, before stopping for lunch.

Upon arrival at Ba Be, check into a welcoming local homestay before boarding a traditional boat to explore the tranquil waters of Ba Be Lake, Vietnam’s largest natural freshwater lake. Cruise through pristine forests surrounded by towering limestone mountains while enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of the national park.

Continue to Dau Dang Waterfall before discovering the impressive Hua Ma Cave, famous for its vast chambers and spectacular rock formations. Return to your homestay for a relaxing evening immersed in nature.

Day 6: Ba Be Lake – Hanoi

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before taking a final stroll around the peaceful village. Capture memorable photos of local life as farmers head to the fields, children make their way to school, and the surrounding countryside slowly comes to life.

Begin the return journey to Hanoi, stopping along the route to admire the scenery or, if your travel date coincides with the local schedule, visit Cho Da Market, a traditional market held on selected days of the lunar calendar.

Arrive back in Hanoi in the late afternoon, where your unforgettable 6-day journey through the breathtaking landscapes and rich cultures of northern Vietnam comes to an end.
